Boos at the Paralympics

It seems George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has at last heard what the disability community think of his cuts to services.  he was booed by the audience at the Paralympics.  Quite why they didn't boo his boss, Cameron, I'm not sure.  Not sure the press will pick this up though - it's not a 'happy heroic' disabled story - being disabled isn't.

  1. Cameron actually WAS booed, but that was only reported with photos by some of the disability protest groups. No it certainly won't hit the press but it is out there.

  2. At least the Independent did report it - just found it. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/olympics/paralympics/paralympic-shorts-heard-the-one-about-david-cameron-george-osborne-and-the-paralympic-jeers-8102870.html
Along with the comment - Why did 80,000 people boo George Osborne at the Paralympics? Because that was the capacity of the stadium!

  3. Not only was it widely reported, it was gleefully reported.

Even some of the Daily Mail readers seem to be getting the idea that the way cuts are falling on disabled people (and their carers)may be irrational.

Do you read the Guardian's Comment is Free page? Debates do rage there, and contributions from those with experience can inform, I think.

I hope you and your wife are adjusting. I cannot for the life of me imagine being an ex-carer. Deeply confusing and conflicting, I imagine. Thank you for still caring.

  4. Interesting you mentioned Comment Is Free in the Guardian. I do keep a general eye on it, and in fact was lucky enough to be a contributor some time ago ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/jun/25/perspectives-care-peoples-panel?INTCMP=SRCH )
Thanks for the support, it is confusing but life's also easier - and I can't help feeling guilty about that - and I'm comfortable with that.
